Following in the footsteps of great DJ/Producer and MC duos like Eric B. & Rakim and Gangstarr, Statik Selektah and Termanology once again combine to form the powerhouse group, 1982.
Following the self-titled debut as a duo in 2010, both artists return with their second project as a duo called 2012, set to drop later this month.
On the upcoming LP, Termanology gets some assists in the form of guest spots from newcomers like Mac Miller, Roc Marciano and Freddie Gibbs, who blend in nicely with iconoclasts Bun B., Havoc of Mobb Deep and Lil Fame of M.O.P and Shawn Stockman from Boyz 2 Men.
So far, 2012 has already garnered high praise from both The Source and XXL magazine in their upcoming issues.
Termanology began making a name for himself with several highly acclaimed 12″ singles. His big break came when DJ Premier blessed him with one of his signature, scratch-laden beats. “Watch How It Go Down” instantly became an underground classic and with it, the Massachusetts-bred rapper thrust himself onto hip-hop’s international radar. The love helped him earned respect amongst peers and praise from press, landing him in The Source’s “Unsigned Hype” and XXL’s “Show and Prove” columns.
Term has since recorded with hip-hop heavyweights such as Freeway, Sheek Louch, The Alchemist, Pete Rock, Buckwild, Easy Mo Bee & Large Professor. Currently, he is readying Fizzyology, his collaboration effort with M.O.P.’s Fizzy Womak (aka Lil Fame).
DJ/producer Statik Selektah has also established himself as a seminal figure on the east coast. He has worked with Talib Kweli, Styles P, Consequence, Freeway, and Jadakiss (among many others); and most importantly, the DJ became a major-player on the mixtape circuit thanks to releases with Nas, Q-Tip, John Legend, and Saigon.
The duo’s upcoming 2012 LP (as 1982) is slated to drop May 25th.
In support of the record, they are on the road in both the States and abroad through July.
