Chicago rapper Chief Keef has experienced a whirlwind in the last several days, all sparked by Kanye West’s remix of his single “I Dont Like You.” The attention has put his name in front of all the right people, and now, Birdman has come out, saying he’s on a mission to sign the 16-year-old rapper to the Cash Money empire.
On the same night Kanye West tweeted that he would be remixing Keef’s single, Chief tweeted that he was fielding calls from several parties interested in signing him, Birdman among them.
“Birdman Just Called He Say He Wanna Sign Me Wit #CMB,” the young rapper wrote (@ChiefKeef) in late April.
Birdman confirmed the tweet during his appearance on Wednesday’s (May 2) episode of MTV’s “RapFix Live,” while explaining why there’s such an urgency to sign him ASAP!
“I like him, he kinda reminds me of us,” Birdman told host Sway Calloway, referring to the entire YMCMB camp. “[He’s] out the streets, I think he’s swagged up and I’m definitely talking to his people and I’d like to see if we can make it pop, see if I can see if I can get him to be down with the team.
“That’s what I like, it’s a movement and he’s young, I think the game needs young blood all the time,” he continued. “[We] need youngsters to keep it innovative, because they’re new and creative in their own way. I’m into the young world, that’s my thing. And I’ma do whatever it takes to make it happen.”
Kanye West’s remix of “I Don’t Like” dropped on Tuesday (May 1), and features Pusha T, Big Sean, and Jadakiss. If you haven’t heard it yet, listen below.
