Iconic headwear manufacturer New Era has re-upped with the NFL for their upcoming season, preparing three collections to be released in the coming months.
Three official collections will be released over the next few months, but up first is the 2012 Draft Collection, which boasts hats for all 32 NFL teams and is in stores now. Each piece for the Draft Collection boasts team branding such as their logos and familiar colors, but New Era put a focus the city for the design.
“The idea and inspiration with this collection was to really celebrate the city, more so than the team. So, if you think about the moment at Draft Day, these players are putting on a cap, they are welcomed to a new team, a new community, and essentially, a new life out of college. We really wanted to celebrate the city in each of these collections,” Katherine Kulczyk, New Era Corporate Communications Manager, tells BallerStatus.com.
Each cap was meticulously designed alongside the NFL and each team franchise. However, the actually design wasn’t the issue, it was the colorways, New Era reveals. In fact, some teams requested as many as 40 prototypes just to make sure everything was just right before going into production.
“All the colors are very particular,” Kulczyk explained. “A lot of these teams went through 20, 30, 40 different prototypes to get the color range just right. The league very particular on those colors, it’s a very storied franchise. We worked really closely with them to make sure that every color, every stitch, every logo was dead one.”
While players will wear the 59Fifty fitted cap on Draft Day, league agents, family and friends will wear either the snapback or the 39Thirty stretchfit silhouette versions.
Following the 2012 NFL Draft Collection, New Era will release their 2012 Training Collection on May 1st, and then, the On-Field Collection a month later on July 1st. Then, in the fall, NFL lifestyle-focused product will begin to roll out.
