If you weren’t in Southern California for 2012’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival, you missed one helluva weekend. If you’re a hip-hop fan, Sunday’s (April 15) finale with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg was unforgettable.
The Good Doctor and longtime partner-in-crime Snoop Dogg took the stage at sometime after 10:40 pm PST, kicking things off with their classic “Next Episode,” before running through a catalog of hits such as “Gin & Juice”, “Nuthin’ But A G Thang” … and even their most recent hook-up, “Kush” off the upcoming Detox album.
Snoop took the reigns at times during the set, one time in which he paid homage to his late friend Nate Dogg, performing “Ain’t No Fun” alongside Kurupt and Warren G as a slideshow of old photos of Nate, Snoop and the rest of the Dogg Pound were displayed on the big screen. Then later, as the set continued, in typical Dre fashion, there was some surprises.
Wiz Khalifa joined Snoop for “Young Wild & Free”; 50 Cent graced the stage for some of his biggest hits; Kendrick Lamar performed the Dre-assisted single, “The Recipe”; and Eminem even came out for “I Need A Doctor”, “Forgot About Dre”, and “Til I Collapse.” However, the biggest surprise came when Tupac appeared on-stage in a hologram form, and performed “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerika’z Most Wanted” alongside Snoop.
Coachella 2012 is set to commence with a second weekend this coming Friday (April 20) until the 22nd. Visit Coachella.com for more info.
