Popular iPhone/Apple-only photo-sharing app, Instagram, announced this weekend that it has surpassed 27 million registered users while revealing that an Andriod version is on the way.
During the SXSW Interactive conference in Austin, Texas, co-founder Kevin Systrom boasted of the numbers of users on his app , but declined to disclose the percentage of the userbase that are active daily.
He told TechCrunch.com that 67% were using the app on Saturday (March 10).
“It’s Facebook-level engagement that we’re seeing,” Systrom said.
He also showed off the upcoming Android app very briefly, but didn’t offer a full demo. Systrom says it’s better than the iOS app in “some ways.”
An official launch date has yet to be revealed, but most say it isn’t too far away.
