El-PIndependent rap icon El-P — the New York native who previously founded iconic label, Definitive Jux — announced this week the upcoming release of a new solo album, titled Cancer For Cure, due out in May 22.

The new album marks his first full-length rap album since 2007’s critically acclaimed, I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead, though El-P’s rap trajectory has been on a steady ascent following a prolific year that saw high profile appearances on Das Racist’s mixtape and debut album, a hugely buzzed Adult Swim single “Drones Over BKLYN”, a verse (which made Stereogum’s top 10 guest verses of the year) on one of the year’s biggest online hits, Mr Muthafuckin’ eXquire’s “Huzzah”, among several other honors.

The record is arriving on the heels of the new Killer Mike album R.A.P. Music, which El-P produced in full.

Full details about the upcoming album was unknown at press time, but it will boast appearances from Paul Banks of Interpol, Danny Brown, Killer Mike, Nick Diamonds, Mr. Diamonds, and Mr. Muthaf***in’ Exquire, among others.

Album cut, “The Full Retard,” is available for download now, over at PitchFork.com.

El-P plans to preview its material at the upcoming SXSW Festival in Austin.

Cancer For Cure drops May 22, via El-P’s new home, Fat Possum.

Below are a list of El-P SXSW appearances:

3/15 – Pitchfork Day Party @ Mohawk
3/16 – Biz3 Showcase @ 1100 Warehouse
3/17 – Thrasher/Converse Party @ Scoot Inn
