One half of The Cool Kids, Sir Michael Rocks, announced over the weekend, that he’s signed to Curren$y’s Jet Life Recordings label.
Via Twitter on Sunday (October 23rd), Spitta welcomed the Illinois rapper to the family.
“Happy to have added one of my good friends to the J.L.R. family…. After I roll this doob I’ll let y’all kno about it..”, Curren$y wrote (@CurrenSy_Spitta), later adding, “Roll one for @SirMichaelRocks for he is indeed Jet Life Official… Pop a bottle for dat man.”
Having signed to Asylum/Warner Bros. himself back in February, Curren$y has been vocal on his ambitions for the label.
“It was definitely, shall we say, educational to see certain artists going out building their empires, building their own movements,” the rapper told the Village Voice in July. “Pharrell with Star Trak, Cam’ron with Dipset. Fans would hear and like ‘That sounds like a Neptunes beat,’ or ‘That sounds like a Dipset joint.’ That’s how I engineered Jet Life to be. I want it to be branded in a way, so the people know what it is.”
2011 has been a productive year for both rappers.
Curren$y has dropped multiple mixtapes, including Covert Coup (with The Alchemist), Weekend at Burnie’s, and the recent DJ Drama-hosted, Verde Terrace. Sir Michael Rocks has seen the release of The Cool Kids’ debut studio album, When Fish Ride Bicycles, in addition to his solo mixtape, Premier Politics.
