Immortal Technique, one of the most dynamic figures in hip-hop, confirmed this week a major U.S. tour set to begin this Friday (October 28), in support of his upcoming new project, The Martyr.
The upcoming project is a free mixtape, which his camp calls “riveting”, and will be punctuated by his upcoming tour where the rapper hits the road through December.
Tech (born Felipe Coronel) has sold over 250,000 albums throughout his career, has videos boasting over 7 million views on YouTube, and is long known as a no-holds-barred songwriter, a freestylist to be reckoned with and a social activist/commentator who pulls no punches.
His tour kicks off on Friday in Syracuse at Syracuse University, and will make stops in Philly, DC, North Carolina, Atlanta, Miami, New Orleans, and Los Angeles; and things come to a close on December 1st in Portland.
Last week, the Harlem resident Tech premiered the track “Toast to the Dead” on DJ Eclipse’ radio show. It was produced by J. Dilla, with cuts from DJ Green Lantern. Listen to the song over at RefinedHype.com.
Tech was also recently the subject of “The (R)evolution Of Immortal Technique”, a revealing documentary by director Cary Stuart. The acclaimed film, which premiered at The Harlem Film Festival, showed Tech to be as altruistic a person as he is relentless as a performer, as it conveyed the artist’s more benevolent side. It won the Festival’s Spotlight Award; and captures Coronel when he isn’t on stage or in the studio, and was shot from 2004 through 2011 in Afghanistan, Peru, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Amsterdam, France, Spain, London, Morocco, Columbia, Venezuela and elsewhere.
The Martyr drops on October 27th, and will be available for free at ViperRecords.com.
