Nicki Minaj has added the Lady Gaga approach to her resume with wild outfits. She even has multiple personas … but in true Lady Gaga fashion, the YMCMB First Lady becomes a male in the latest music video for Birdman’s new single, “Y.U. Mad.”
MTV went behind the scenes as Birdman filmed the clip in Miami last week, alongside Lil Wayne and
Nicki Minaj the female Weezy.
Sporting long blonde dreadlocks, a wifebeater, boxers, camo pants, and a diamond-studded chain and watch, Nicki channeled her inner-Weezy for her role in the video.
In an interview with MTV, Birdman explained how the song came about, while Nicki remained silent and in character.
“Nicki gave me that song. She called me one day like, ‘Stunna, I got a record for you I think you would like,'” the Cash Money CEO explained. “I jumped on it and put my son on it. I liked it from the start. Working with Nicki is just special anyway and I felt good about it, so we rocked with it.”
Chiming in, Weezy explained that the trio doesn’t want anyone mad, but instead, the word just fit into the song perfectly.
“I don’t think no one is actually mad. It’s just a figure of speech,” he said, while Nicki began to laugh. “I think Nick just sounded good saying mad at that point in the song. I don’t think it would’ve been cooler if she said, ‘That’s why you glad.’ We have to ask her next time I see her.”
The single is the first off Birdman’s upcoming album, Bigga Than Life, due out November 21.
