Kanye West and Russell Simmons aren’t the only artists supporting the Occupy Wall Street encampment. Longtime activist/rapper Immortal Technique is an underground rapper who has been supporting causes around the world for years.
In an interview with DemocracyNow.org, the New York rapper shares his impressions of the protesters’ demands and does an acapella version of his song “Toast to the Dead” for cameras.
“People say, ‘You know what? I want concrete solutions. I want people held accountable for what they did wrong,'” Immortal Technique said. “‘I want governments to realize that they’re not just going to get a free pass for their horrific record of human rights, even if you’re supported by America, because we have deals to exploit your natural resources.’ I think that that’s what people are genuinely concerned with here.”
Occupy Wall Street is an ongoing series of demonstrations in New York City, based in Zuccotti Park on Wall Street. The participants are mainly protesting against social and economic inequality, corporate greed, as well as the power and influence of corporations over government. For further info, visit Wikipedia.
