Drake’s rumored fling with Rihanna has been a topic for quite some time. The Canadian rapper even addressed the situation, through lyrics, on Rick Ross’ “Made Men,” rapping: “One of my baddest women ever, I call her Rihanna / But that’s ’cause her name is Rihanna.”
He also opened up about it further on the song “Fireworks,” off his debut album Thank Me Later, in which he basically says the singer used him.
Drizzy opened up a little more about the brief relationship in the latest issue of Elle magazine, explaining that he was really hurt by it, but now, doesn’t blame her for it.
“At the time it hurt, but she didn’t mean to,” Drizzy said. “I’ll never put that on her. I was hurt because I slowly started to realize what it was. I guess I thought it was more.”
When Drizzy hooked up with Rihanna briefly in 2009 “on a whim”, as he explains it, and him being such a newcomer to not only music, but fame, he fell for her quickly … maybe a little too quickly.
“That was the first girl with any fame that paid me any mind,” the rapper admits. “You spend days reading about this person in magazines. All of a sudden you have this number-one song and you’re at some birthday party and there she is. And you’re just some naive kid from Toronto staying in some sh**ty-ass hotel who got invited to this party on a whim. That’s just how it happened.”
There’s always two sides to everything. However, Rihanna, hasn’t publicly addressed the romance, other than some brief comments.
Rihanna hasn’t talked much publicly about dating Drake other than to say it was bad timing. Afterall, she had just broken up with Chris Brown, and wasn’t ready for anything serious.
“It was at a really fragile time in my life, so I just didn’t want to get too serious with anything or anyone at that time,” the singer told TheBoomBox.com last year.
They’ve since collaborated on Rihanna’s hit single, “What’s My Name?”, off her Loud album. Its video helped spark rumors that the pair were dating.
Although things didn’t work out with Rihanna, Drake says there’s one other female star that he’s go all the way with … meaning marriage, and that’s his YMCMB peer, Nicki Minaj. The two of them pretended to get married via Twitter last year, but Drake says he was dead serious … that is, if Nicki was with it.
“I don’t know if we were really pretending. I’d marry Nicki,” said Drake. “I think Nicki would be one of the only people that would understand me at the end of all of this and be able to love me.”
Outside of women troubles, Drake’s still focused on music. His sophomore release, Take Care, is scheduled for a November 15 debut.
