Jamaican dancehall DJ, Vybz Kartel, was arrested by the country’s Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT) on murder charges on Monday evening (October 3), for the killing of a local promoter/businessman.
According to the Jamaica Observer, the 35-year-old DJ (real name: Adidja Palmer) has been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm, following an interrogation of Kartel on Monday in the presence of his attorneys.
He’s charged with killing 27-year-old Barrington “Bossie” Burton back in July.
Police say Kartel and other men conspired to murder Burton before the actual slaying. Then, carried out the plan, murdering him while standing with friends in the Gregory Park area of Portmore.
The dancehall star is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday (October 4).
Kartel was previously arrested by members of the Flying Squad division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force on Friday (September 30), and charged with possession of a small quantity of marijuana confiscated in a Kingston hotel room where he was staying during the filming of his reality dating show, “Teacha’s Pet.”
Since the arrest, Jamaica’s CVM TV network has announced that the show has been cancelled immediately.
A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Kartel was raised in Portmore; prior to his ascent to nationwide fame, he rose to prominence locally as a party promoter.
