T.I. made a grand return on Saturday evening (October 1), hitting the stage of the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta, just days after being released following an 11-month prison sentence.
The “King of the South” opened up the awards ceremony by performing alongside Young Jeezy, treating attendees to the Snowman’s new single, “F.A.M.E.”
While TIP probably earned the evening’s biggest highlight, there was others who helped hold down the stage with their own performances — including Rick Ross, Lupe Fiasco, DMX, and Wiz Khalifa.
Another anticipated part of the show was the buzz-worthy rap ciphers. Previous ciphers included Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music roster, Wiz Khalifa, and others. This year, it added the likes of French Montana, Tech N9ne, Big K.R.I.T., Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Maybach Music Group, Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf, and Eminem — all of which traded rhymes while DJ Premier spun the beats.
LL Cool J accepted his “I Am Hip Hop Award” for his career of achievements in music, movies and television. LL admitted in disbelief that he was “choked up” at the honor.
As previously announced, award nominees was led by Lil Wayne (who earned a record-setting 18 nods), Chris Brown, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross. However, the winners will not be revealed until the show airs.
The 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards will air on Tuesday (October 11) at 8pm ET on BET. Mike Epps serves as the show’s host.
