Last week was Jay-Z and Kanye West’s week, as everyone experience Watch The Throne fever when it dropped last Monday (August 8) … and sales numbers reflected that.
According to Billboard.com, the collaborative LP between the two rap stars broke U.S. iTunes Store’s one-week sales record, selling nearly 290,000 downloads through Sunday night (Aug. 14).
Throne hit iTunes first, being exclusively available at the digital retailer from August 8-11, before physical CDs hit store shelves on Friday (August 12).
The numbers help the album surpass the previous one-week iTunes record, set when Coldplay’s 2008 album, Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends, which recorded 282,000 in its first week.
Overall numbers for Watch the Throne will be announced Wednesday (August 17).
However, it’s expected to top the Billboard 200, and have sold a 410,000-450,000 first week.
