Q&A With T.I.T.S. Brand’s Marek Grubel: Reflects On Five Years

T.I.T.S. owner Marek Grubel and Rosa AcostaIt’s been a grind and a lot work behind the scenes, but Seattle-based clothing company, T.I.T.S. (Two In The Shirt), has reached their five-year anniversary … and they’re bigger than they’ve ever been.

Owner/founder Marek Grubel took a simple idea of taking photos of beautiful women and putting them on t-shirts, and in five years, turned it into one of the most popular “streetwear” brands, which has been co-signed and worn by some of the biggest celebrities.

“T.I.T.S. began with a concept based on a love for women,” the company said in a press release. “The female form served as the focal point of the brand, and every day more people are discovering and identifying with what T.I.T.S. has to offer.”

The company celebrated the five-year mark with an invite-only party in Seattle in late June, which boasted naked chicks, free drinks … and a whole lot of fun.

After the event, we caught up with Marek for a quick Q&A about the accomplishment, as well as T.I.T.S.’ past, present, and future of the brand.

BallerStatus.com: First, what it feels like to celebrate five years as a clothing brand?

Marek Grubel: It feels great to look back where you started and to see that the same shirts you created five years ago are still great designs that are still wanted today.

BallerStatus.com: Can you tell us a little about starting T.I.T.S.? Where the idea came about, and its beginnings?

Marek Grubel: I trademarked the name in ’04, showed at our first tradeshow in ’06, which is also when we began to educate people on what we wanted to achieve. Of course, with a little selling as well.

BallerStatus.com: It seems like the idea for putting a hot girl on a tee is a no-brainer. Why do you think nobody’s been able to turn it into such as success like you did?

Marek Grubel: Timing! Ten years ago, this brand would not have been possible. It took people buying the same logo tee over and over to want something different and to want to stand out from the next person. All of our concepts are different and that’s something that sets us apart from the rest.

BallerStatus.com: Looking back, did you think it would become what it has today?

Marek Grubel: Looking back I believed it would be what it is today, but I could not have scripted how we got from point “A” to point “B.”

BallerStatus.com: So far, what has been the most memorable moment for you in the growth of T.I.T.S.?

Marek Grubel: A couple come to mind. First time 50 Cent wore one on “106 & Park.” Also the day we signed the contract with our South Africa distributor.

Marek Grubel: Our Wifey 2 and 3 tees.

Marek Grubel: The Solid Gold, Secret Admirer, Umbrella… there are to many…

BallerStatus.com: Tell us about the future of T.I.T.S., and where you see if going five years from here?

Marek Grubel: We are going to be the marketing avenue for mainstream media — whether that is models who are trying to break into the industry, to Dr. Dre wanting to do a collab tee to promote a new single that will be coming out.
