In a time where government spending is at an all-time high, funding is being cut in places needed the most: the youth. Funding in education, and after school programs just aren’t a priority in our society at the moment, but it should be. Because, without the furthering of the youth’s betterment, how will the next generation be equipped to lead our nation in the decades to come?
This is why we (BallerStatus.com), along with CraveOnline.com, have teamed up with The P.L.A.T.E.S. Foundation for a cause we all believe in — supporting our youth.
P.L.A.T.E.S., which stands for “Positive Lives Achieved Through Education & Sports,” is dedicated to securing financial and community resources to support the revitalization and building of parks, sports complexes and community centers for the betterment of the U.S. youth; and also promote healthy, athletic activities, and help to provide positive learning environments that will enhance the intellectual, cultural and educational needs of our youth.
One of the projects, the foundation is currently working on is the construction of a sports complex that is completely self-sufficient, housing multiple athletic fields, basketball courts, action sports facilities, as well as classrooms for after school tutoring and specialized training courses.
In support of the project, P.L.A.T.E.S. chairman Joey Torres is calling on all “ballers” to contribute, either large or small, to a cause needed for the kids whom will eventually become the leaders of our country.
“As a society, at every income range, we have become an ‘I’ society.’I want, so I get.’ Even in these tough times we spend our money fruitlessly,” said Torres. “We have average people going out to bars, clubs, concerts and events that spend anywhere from $50 to $1000 or more in a night. We continue to purchase large ticket priced luxury items. We have singers, rappers, producers, actors and high income executives that are self proclaimed ‘ballers’, and have the financial means to contribute, but do not. Yet still we have others who don’t go out, don’t purchase high ticketed luxury items, do not have ‘baller’ claims, but still have the financial means to contribute, but do not.
“I am not asking anyone to change who they are, but rather look at who we are as a whole, look at our youth, and our collective futures, draw a line in the sand and take a stand,” he continued. “Make a difference. Contribute to something that is greater than you or me. This is a call to arms for action! Whoever you are, wherever you come from, wherever you’re at, you can be proud and contribute to a greater cause.”
We (P.L.A.T.E.S., BallerStatus, and Crave) are asking for everyone to give back, and contribute something, whether it is $1 or $1,000,000. Throughout the month of July, it is our collective goal to raise upwards of $1,000,000. This shouldn’t be a hard goal to attain. If everyone only donated $1 we will surpass that goal with ease.
100% of the net profits will benefit The P.L.A.T.E.S. Foundation.
Additionally, P.L.A.T.E.S. is slated to hold their annual Golf Classic this August, which serves as a fundraiser for the foundation, also benefiting the sports complex project.
Several celebrities will be participating, including actress Aimee Garcia, actor Emilio Rivera, “NYPD Blue’s” Esai Morales, boxer Zab Judah, actress Kristen Renton, comedian/actor Wesley Jonathan, UFC legend Tito Ortiz, and many others.
