Chicago rapper Rhymefest was released from the hospital over the weekend after he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
The rapper’s concerned fans flocked to his Twitter feed (@Rhymefest) to offer well wishes after learning that he had checked himself into the emergency room last Thursday (June 2) for having dangerously high sugar levels in his blood.
It was then that ‘Fest learned that he had been living with diabetes unbeknownst to him.
Now that he knows, he plans to live a healthier lifestyle.
“I’m back y’all, thanks 4the prayers and well wishers. I got released from the hospital over the weekend. diabetes is manageable, so I’m good,” ‘Fest tweeted. “Got a new diet, work out plan and lease on life. Gotta get off this insulin.”
While juggling a music career and running for a Chicago Alderman seat over the past several months, Rhymefest realized that he didn’t put a priority on his health.
“Now that my sugar is down I feel much better I was operating on overdrive for years and had no idea,” he tweeted.
‘Fest had been making headlines over the past several months, since announcing late last year that he planned to run for Alderman of Chicago’s 20th Ward. While he made a valiant effort, he eventually lost in the election with 45.4% of the vote.
