This week’s Billboard 200 is ruled by pop superstar, Lady Gaga. She tops this week’s album charts with her latest set, Born This Way, but Rick Ross’ Maybach Music compilation makes a splash on the top 5, while Jadakiss hits the charts with his new retail mixtape.
Gaga’s new album sold 1.1 million copies in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan, making the largest sales week for any album since 200,5 and the 17th set to shift a million units in a week since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.
A few slots down, in at #5, was the label compilation from Ross’ Maybach Music Group. The album, titled Self Made Vol. 1, opens with 59,000 copies sold. It features the Miami rapper’s all-new roster of artists, including Wale, Pill, Meek Mill, Teedra Moses, Stalley and Gunplay of Triple C’s, alongside Ross himself.
Later, the Beastie Boys’ Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2, shifted another 20,000 copies to come in at #14, taking their sales total to 214,000.
And, closing out the top 20 is Bruno Mars, with Doo-Wops & Hooligans, selling 17,000 to come in at #20.
The only other new hip-hop release comes from Jadakiss. The New York rap vet opens at #39 with his retail mixtape, I Love You (A Dedication To My Fans). While it dropped as a free project in May, Jada and Def Jam packaged it, and released it as a physical and digital retail project. It sold 11,000 in its first week out.
