Jose and Ozzie CansecoThe Canseco brothers are at it again. Jose Canseco has a twin brother named Ozzie if you weren’t aware, and he’s notorious for filling in for his brother at past autograph signings.

Most recently, Jose reportedly skipped out on a scheduled boxing match in Florida, and sent his brother instead, but they didn’t get away with it.

According to the Miami Herald, Canseco (Jose) was a no-show for a boxing event in Hollywood, Florida, for a company called Celebrity Boxing, and instead, sent Ozzie to fill in.

Everything was ok, until about 30 minutes before the fight  — which was  scheduled at the Passion nightclub at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino — when promoters discovered it was the wrong Canseco, all because of tattoo discrepancies between the twins.

“We discovered the Canseco who showed up was Ozzie when he took off his shirt and didn’t have José’s tattoos on the biceps that appear in our advertising,” a Celebrity Boxing rep told the paper.

That same source said they agreed to pay Jose $10,000 for the fight. $5,000 leading up to the fight, with plans to pay an additional $5,000 upon arrival. However, when Ozzie arrived, they got into a disagreement over the money, because he wanted cash instead of a check that they planned to pay him with.

“We made him a transfer of $5,000 when we agreed on the fight,” the source said. “Hours before the fight Saturday, we issued a check for the remaining $5,000 in the name of José Canseco, and we delivered it to whom we thought was José Canseco. He declined it and asked that the check be made out to cash, which we did.

“When we discovered that the person to whom we had given the rest of the money was not José, but Ozzie, we asked him to return the check, but he refused to do it. We will go to the bank on Monday and put a stop-payment on it.”

Ozzie didn’t fight that evening,  and was received a police escort out of the nightclub, said reports.

While Jose did not officially comment to the press about the incident, he did give his version via Twitter (@JoseCanseco) on Saturday (March 26), writing: “Be very careful with Damon feldman who runs celebrity boxing, he will not pay you if you fight for him.”

Feldman says he wants the original $5,000 he paid Jose back.

“I’ve worked with him before,” Feldman said. “Except now I’ve got to look back at the pictures at the time and look if I ever really met Jose Canseco.”
