Rising radio personality, DJ Megatron, was gunned down in Staten Island, New York early Sunday morning (March 27) by an unknown gunman right down the street from his home.
According to the New York Daily News, the DJ (real name: Corey McGriff) was hit by a single shot to his torso at aroun 2 a.m.
A person who was in the area and heard the gunshot called 911, but by the time paramedics arrived, Megatron was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
He was just 32 years old.
The shooter remains at large, and according to the paper, police said there were no witnesses.
“We don’t know what the motive was. We don’t know what preceded the incident, and we would love it if some witnesses came forward,” a police source said.
Megatron was a former DJ New York’s Hot 97 radio station, as well as a regular on BET’s “106 & Park”, and New York’s club scene. His family, who said he was not one to make enemies, said the death comes as a shock to those who were his friends.
“Everybody is shocked,” a close friend, who asked not be identified, told the Daily News. “He just had a new baby. He wasn’t feuding with anybody. Everybody liked him.”
The DJ is survived by three children and leaves a wife behind.
