NFL star Chad Ochocinco’s soccer career has been extended … for at least two days.
According to ESPN, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver was asked by MLS soccer team Sporting Kansas City to play in their reserve team’s game Monday (March 28) against a local squad.
Ochocinco, who previously revealed that he started out playing soccer before switching his focus to football as a kid, began a four-day trial with the MLS team Wednesday (March 23), but didn’t play his best soccer game.
He admitted he was rusty because he hadn’t played since the 10th grade, but was also a little nervous and a bit out of shape on his first day.
However, Sporting KC spokesman said Ochocinco appeared much more comfortable the next day and will play Monday against the Kansas City Brass, a minor league team. It is not unusual for those in a tryout to be given the opportunity to play in at least one game.
Since news broke that Ochocinco wanted to play professional soccer, it’s been met with a little criticism, specifically from the coach of the Bengals, Marvin Lewis.
Lewist said earlier this week in reference to his player’s tryout: “What has he ever done that he’s completed? What circle has he ever connected in any way?”
In response, Ochocinco responded hopped on Twitter (@Ochocinco), saying: “Marvin Lewis won’t say anything bad about Carson Palmer, stays kissing his ass, but disses @ochocinco daily #smh,” he wrote.
Even one of his fellow NFL players took a shot. On Friday (March 25), Green Bay Packers tight end, Jermichael Finley, referred to Ochocinco as a “clown” for trying out for the MLS team.
