Nate DoggBefore Akon, T-Pain, and Rihanna, it was Long Beach, Calif. singer Nate Dogg who rappers called upon for a chorus/hook, guaranteed to be a smash, and he delivered.

From Tupac and Dr. Dre to Ludacris, Fabolous, 50 Cent, and Eminem, Nate’s run as the “go-to” hit maker lasted from the mid-90s until the mid-2000s. Even today, many longtime fans of hip-hop have memories of those hits that pumped in nightclubs and in their cars.

As widely reported, the singer (real name: Nathaniel D. Hale) passed away on Tuesday (March 15) following two massive strokes he suffered in 2007 and 2008. Although friends such as Warren G had previously said Nate was recovering, undergoing extensive therapy to re-learn basic motor-functions, including speech, he lost the battle.

May he rest in peace, and forever be a legend in music.
