Thursday (March 3) 20 years to the day that Rodney King forever became a symbol of police brutality, and CNN anchor Don Lemon will premiere an exclusive interview with King. to retrace the events of that morning in 1991.
In the special, called “Race and Rage: The Beating of Rodney King”, a 45-year-old King talks to Lemon and takes a closer look at the riots that divided LA and the nation. They also discuss King being a symbol of police brutality, take a visit to the scene, and report on King’s life today.
Back in 1991, construction worker Rodney King and two companions were pulled over after a high-speed chase in Los Angeles. King’s friends were arrested without incident, but the violent confrontation between King and the officers on the scene made national headlines, and ignited racial tensions in the city — and the nation.
