Being at the top of the hip-hop game can be glamorous, but it comes with a high price. Guys like Tupac said they felt like a prisoner to their own fame. But what about the women? That’s what VH1’s upcoming docu-soap series, “Love & Hip Hop”, is all about.

The show follows four women, and Mashonda, who all share one common bond: their connection to the hip-hop world … either through their men or their careers. It will consist of eight parts, capturing the struggles of Chrissy (who’s been dating Jim Jones for six years) and Emily (who has a son with Fabolous), both dating rappers and must navigate their relationships while still maintaining a sense of self.

Somaya and Olivia are both recording artists trying to break through in the male-dominated hip-hop industry. And Mashonda, well, her story has played out before everybody — her ex-husband, Swizz Beatz, left her and is now married to Alicia Keys.

The show is set to air on March 14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on VH1.
