It’s been three years since news that Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West and Pharrell had formed a supergrounp called Child Rebel Soldier (CRS), and those waiting for this project, will have to wait a little while longer.
Apparently, other projects have taken priority over the group, specifically, Kanye’s collaborative album with Jay-Z, titled Watch The Throne.
Lupe revealed recently that individual projects have made CRS take a backseat for the time being.
“I think the Jay-Z/Kanye collabo [Watch the Throne] kinda was like, ‘Aww man, aww no,’ ” he told “The Morning Crew” at Hartford’s Hot 93.7. “Whenever we get to go in [the studio] and have the time and the opportunity to do it, we’re always working on some other project. Pharrell gon’ do a soundtrack for a movie, Kanye does another project.”
Lupe further explained that when they do collaborate, it’s more of a “one-off” thing, rather than a songs for a full-length album.
“It’s becoming less of an album and more of every time we do a song together — me, ‘Ye, and Pharrell, a CRS thing,” the Chicago rapper explained.
This delima isn’t only due to Kanye and Pharrell, Lupe himself has his own project in the pipeline as well. He’s been hard at work on his long-delayed Lasers album, now due out March 8. So far, he’s released the single “The Show Goes On,” along with its video.
