Rapper Kid Cudi has pled guilty to a misdemeanor drug possession charge, and has gotten off lightly, reports TMZ.
The Cleveland rapper (real name: Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi) was arrested in June and charged with felony criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance, following a heated argument with his girlfriend in New York.
Reports said took his girlfriend’s phone, smashed it on the ground, and allegedly ripped the door of her apartment.
When cops arrived to investigate, a glass jar of cocaine was found.
Apparently, it seems the felony charge was dropped in exchange for a guilty plea to the possession charge.
TMZ says Cudi got off with a little community service, two days worth. But, he also has to stay out of trouble for the next six months.
In Cudi’s recent Complex magazine cover story, the rapper explained that his cocaine habit started when his music career began to take off. He told the mag that he used it to get through media days that consisted of back-to-back interviews.
But, since his arrest, Cudi says he’s kicked the habit.
“No more blow,” said Cudi. “People do drugs to camouflage emotions and run away from their problems. Now I’m going to deal with certain things as they come, prioritize sh** — man up, so to speak.”
