Before assisting Jay-Z for his show with Eminem at Yankees Stadium in New York on Tuesday night (September 14), Kanye West made his rounds at New York Fashion Week where he revealed details on his upcoming movie “Runaway.”
New York Magazine ran into the producer/rapper who said that he had wrapped shooting on the 40-minute film and was hard at work on the editing process, which is why he’s been MIA from Twitter for a few days.
“I haven’t tweeted much in the past couple days because I’ve got so much work to work on,” West said. “I’m color-correcting this film I shot in Prague a couple weeks ago.”
He explained that the 40-minute film-noir style movie was based on his new album and also inspired by his struggles in the media over the past year, following the much-publicized Taylor Swift incident at the 2009 MTV VMAs.
“It’s been in my heart for a while. It’s maybe parallel to my career,” West said. “I threw a Molotov cocktail on my career last year, in a way, and I had to come back as a better person.”
He continued briefly explaining what “Runaway” is all about: “It’s the story of a phoenix fallen to Earth, and I make her my girlfriend, and people discriminate against her and eventually she has to burn herself alive and go back to her world. I’ve been feeling the idea of the phoenix.”
Kanye gave fans the first listen of “Runaway” during his appearance at MTV’s VMAs on Sunday (September 12), where he closed out the ceremony with a performance of the song.
