It’s been four years since Xzibit released Full Circle, and while he’s working up to the release of a new project called MMX, that doesn’t mean he’s putting his movie career on hold.
The rapper returned to Michigan this week to film a guest spot on an upcoming episode of ABC’s crime drama, “Detroit 1-8-7,” which will debuts on September 21 at 10PM.
For the role, X will play a street hustler who reforms his ways and becomes a record producer.
In addition to the rapper, the show stars Michael Imperioli (“The Sopranos”) as Detective Louis Fitch, as well as Aisha Hinds (“True Blood”), and follows a police unit assigned to an inner city homicide unit.
“Just left the street I grew up on,” tweeted Xzibit (@Xzibit) over the weekend. “Eastside #Detroit my old house was abandoned like half the block. memories. #sad.”
As a rapper, Xzibit has had both indie success and commercial success, with his best-selling album coming in 2000 when he teamed up with Dr. Dre for Restless.
As an actor, he’s appeared in a number of films since his big screen debut in the 1999 film “The Breaks.” He gone on to land roles in films like “xXx: State of The Union”, 2005’s “Derailed” alongside Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston, “Gridiron Gang” with The Rock,” 2008’s “The X-Files,” and last year’s “Bad Lieutenant” with Nicolas Cage.
