DJ KhaledIt was last week when DJ Khaled surprised his Twitter followers when he officially announced that he had signed with Cash Money Records.

While it seemed as though the deal came outta nowhere, since Khaled had already had a long-working relationship with E1 Music (aka Koch Records), the Miami DJ tells Vibe.com that his alliance with Birdman’s powerhouse label has been in the works for years.

According to Khaled, all parties were just waiting on him to finish out his contract and then Cash Money was where he was headed.

“Birdman always loved my work and passion. We’ve known each other for years, and he’s always told me when you fulfill your contract with E1 you always got a home over here,” the DJ told Vibe. “I was going to sign myself, but I called Birdman and he said ‘let’s get the deal done in an hour.’ He just wanted to make it happen.”

Despite just inking the new deal on Thursday (August 19), Khaled tells the mag that he’s already begun work on his Cash Money debut, titled We The Best Forever.

While he plans to keep guest appearances and producers hush hush for now, there’s one person he is gunning for and wants to let it be known.

“Slim Shady, let’s make it happen. The people want it,” Khaled exclaimed. “Em, I need you!”
