Rapper Wiz Khalifa has a new record deal. On the heels of being named “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” by MTV, Wiz has signed a deal with Atlantic Records, via his indie label Rostrum Records.
The Pittsburgh, PA rapper’s camp announced the deal in a press release this week, and also added that Wiz will currently hard at work on his major label debut.
The as-yet-titled album is slated for release in early 2011.
Having already released a steady stream of popular mixtapes, Wiz blew up big time earlier this year with the release of his monster mixtape, Kush & Orange Juice. The mixtape proved to be a genuine online phenomenon, quickly becoming the #1 search topic on both Google and Yahoo, as well as a #1 trending topic on Twitter, with the hashtag, #kushandorangejuice.
Since then, Wiz’ online presence has been undeniable. He garnered close to 8 million profile views and a total of nearly 30 million plays at his official MySpace page, MySpace.com/WizKhalifa, as well as over 220,000 fans following him at on Twitter @RealWizKhalifa. Additionally, on Facebook, over 400,000 people have “liked” his page.
The rapper is set to embark on a massive North American tour dubbed the “Waken Baken Tour” in mid-September through late November.
