Back in 2006, Queensbridge legend Nas declared “Hip-Hop Is Dead” with the title of his album. What does he think today?
As he makes his rounds, doing interviews with Damian Marley for their new joint album Distant Relatives, the rapper revealed to the Wall Street Journal that he thinks the genre is finally back on its feet.
While Nas says hip-hop did, in fact, die, it’s back now.
“It died several times, but I do believe in the heartbeat of it right now,” Nas said. “There are a lot of new artists, and artists that have been around, who are kicking a** right now. I just wanted to give a boost to people and to myself, to push people to go harder. It’s a different world now.”
Distant Relatives is in stores now.
