Miami rapper, Pitbull, announced late Thursday (May 13) — via his official website and social networking profiles — that he’s decided to pull out of his May 31st tour stop in Phoenix, Arizona.
The rapper said his decision was made in protest of the recent passing of the state’s controversial SB1070 legislation, which in short, makes it a state misdemeanor crime for an illegal alien to be in Arizona without carrying legal documents.
“I am canceling my concert in Phoenix on May 31. How is the country we enjoy and love bcuz of its human rights, freedom, opportunity and that has been built by immigrants, now start 2 deny them? It is contradicting 2 everything the USA stands 4,” Pitbull said in a tweet (@PlanetPit).
Pitbull is the latest in a host of other top artists, politicians, community leaders and citizens expressing their disapproval of the new law.
Despite the cancellation, other dates on the AEG Live-promoted “Mr. Worldwide’s Carnaval” tour will continue as scheduled.
The tour will kick off on May 25 at the 1stBank Center in Denver and will continue through June 28 with a final show at the Milwaukee Summerfest.
