NBA Jam 2010Remember the popular catchphrases like “boomshakalaka” and “he’s on fire?” Yep, those were from the now-classic arcade basketball game NBA Jam.

If you haven’t heard by now, EA Sports is revamping the title and bringing it back later this year.

When you used to play this game, did you ever think you could come up with something better than “boomshakalaka”? Well, EA is giving you a chance to do so.

They’ve launched a contest, giving fans a chance to be immortalized in video game history by having their unique Jam catchphrase included in the game.

The contest opened on Thursday (May 13) and will continue though May 19th. After that, 64 phrases will be chosen and fans will vote to choose the best one. Four finalists will have their one-liners included in the game and heard by millions of people around the world.

Of course, they will be said by by the original voice of NBA JAM, Tim Kitzrow, who reprises his role as the legendary announcer.

NBA Jam is one of the most popular and culturally influential arcade basketball games ever made, and is widely known for its one-liners like ‘Boom-Shaka-Laka’ and ‘He’s on Fire,’ ” says Kitzrow. “I am really excited to be a part of the remake and for fans to create the expressions that could become culturally iconic in the years to come.”
