When Floyd Mayweather takes on “Suger” Shane Mosley on May 1st in Las Vegas, fans who can’t make the trek to Sin City can catch the action the next best way … on the big screen.
After two successful runs with previous bouts, Golden Boy Promotions has teamed up with NCM Fathom once again to broadcast the upcoming fight in more than 415 movie theaters across the nation, all in high definition.
It’s definitely the next best thing to sitting ringside.
“I think this is a fantastic way to see the fight and I am glad to give fans the chance to do it again on May 1 with my fight against Sugar Shane Mosley,” said Mayweather. “Going to the movies is one of my favorite things to do and I actually have a movie theater in my house, too. I can only imagine how great it would be to watch one of my fights on the big screen in high definition. Too bad I will be fighting that night; otherwise I would be there to watch it, too.”
“Boxing on the big screen is like sitting ringside for all the excitement. The fight fan experience is second to none,” added Dan Diamond, vice president of Fathom. “With two champions like Mayweather and Mosley squaring off, this bout will be an electrifying welterweight mega-fight from Las Vegas. If you can’t be ringside, you can be a part of the action live with our HD theater experience, offering the biggest and most exciting way to catch a fight.”
“Mayweather vs. Mosley: Who R U Picking?” is the third boxing match broadcast through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. Fathom and Golden Boy Promotions first teamed up for the highly successful presentation of the Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight in September 2009, the first in over 20 years. Then, last month, the two companies announced an agreement to air “The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones II” with Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones, Jr. in April.
Tickets for Mayweather/Mosley are available at participating theater box offices and online at FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations, visit their website.
Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) is thought of by many as the best boxer of this era, and has earned titles in several different weight classes. Following a brief semi-retirement in 2008, he returned to the sport in a dominant win against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2009. Now, his next challenge is Shane Mosley.
Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) is a welterweight mega-star and five-time world champion. He currently holds the WBA Welterweight best. He spent much of the early 2000s dominating the welterweight division, as well as taking on opponents in the junior middleweight class; earning both the WBC and WBA junior middleweight titles. In 2008 he scored a stirring last second knockout of former two-division world champion Ricardo Mayorga, to set up his 2009 fight against WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito, in which earned Mosley his sixth world title, the WBA World Welterweight Championship in a dominating knockout win.
May 1st, the two fighters will collide at Las Vegas’ MGM Casino.
