At The Movies: Steve Carell & Tina Fey’s ‘Date Night’ Edges Out ‘Clash of the Titans’

Date Night movieIt was a battle at this weekend's box office, where Steve Carell and Tina Fey's new comedy "Date Night" took out the gods of "Clash of the Titans" in a very close fight.

"Date Night" landed at #1 with a $27.1 million debut, while "Clash of the Titans" slipped to #2 with $26.9 million.

According to the Associated Press, weekend races for #1 are very rare. In most cases, one movie is clearly the winner.

So far, "Clash" has raked in $110.5 million during its 10-day total.

In a close #3, DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon" earned $25.4 million, lifting its 17-day total to $133.9 million; while Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married Too?" hit #4 with $11 million.

Closing out the top 5 was "The Last Song" with $10 million.

In narrower release, Vivendi Entertainment's inspirational drama "Letters to God" opened at #10 with $1.3 million. The movie centers on a boy who writes letters to God to help cope with his fight against cancer.

That wraps things up this weekend. Next weekend, look out for the Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Tracy Morgan comedy "Death at a Funeral," and the action comedy "Kick Ass."
