In late 2008, Suge Knight filed a lawsuit against Kanye West, in which he claimed the rap superstar was responsible for a 2005 shooting, in which he was shot in the leg inside Miami’s Shore Club where West was hosting VMAs pre-party.
This week, a trial date was finally set in the case.
According to TheBoomBox.com, it will commence in Miami on December 6th.
Knight was shot in the leg during an MTV VMAs pre-party in Miami back in 2005. The shooting took place inside the Shore Club, where celebrities such as Jessica Alba, the Black Eyed Peas and Paris Hilton were partying the night away at the Kanye West-hosted soiree.
Three years after the incident, Knight filed a lawsuit against both West and the Shore Club, claiming they failed to “provide adequate security” at the event, which resulted in him getting shot.
“He’s an icon in the music industry. He walks in a room and he lights it up,” Knight’s attorney said. “He had an expectation of security there. How someone came with a gun into a very VIP party, that just doesn’t meet the smell test in life.”
He’s seeking over $1 million in damages, which will cover medical bills and 15-carat diamond stud earring worth $135,000.
Knight claims he endured months of physical therapy, suffered permanent impairment in his mobility, and racked up significant medical expenses — including medical treatment, ambulance costs, and the costs of a private jet to transport him from Miami to Los Angeles.
TheBoomBox.com says that if Knight wins, the majority of the judgment will end up with his bankruptcy trustee and the IRS.
