West Coast crooner Kokane comes from a long history in music. His father was a multiple Grammy winner as a producer and writer. Now, he wants his.
The rapper/singer’s voice has been featured on countless tracks, which have sold a combined 35 million records — alongside the likes of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg to 50 Cent and Eazy-E. He’s the most featured artist in the world, according to his camp.
Kokane announced recently that he’s gearing up for the release of a new solo LP, titled Gimme Mine, set to drop in May.
He just leaked the first single off the album. It’s a song called “Twilight Zone,” produced by Tha Chill (of Compton’s Most Wanted), where he drops some major industry knowledge.
In one verse, reminiscing about hip-hop’s golden years, while on another he says Dre’s not even thinking about his long-awaited Detox album.
“Things ain’t what they used to be / these n****s in the game is f***ing up E’s legacy / cous must be flipping in his grave,” Kokane sings.
“Dr. Dre ain’t worried about Detox / he sell headphones / getting big Guap,” he spits on another.
This is just the first taste of what’s to expect, when Gimme Mine hits stores on May 25.
