In the wake of the many Venom album release date delays, Houston rapper Chamillionaire has decided to give fans a does of new music while the wait, in the form of a new mixtape, titled Major Pain.
The new 18-track mixtape hit the web Tuesday (February 2), despite the rapper saying he’d no longer release any new mixtapes.
“I felt it was time to take it back to the original grind that made these major companies pay attention in the first place,” Chamillionaire explained of his return to the mixtape circuit. “I don’t think there is any reason why any artist with real knowledge of independent hustle, should sit and wait for any major system to work for them. BUT, because I am signed to a major recording label, there are still a lot of things that I would like to be able to do, that I’m not really allowed to do.
“Politics in this business often stand between a creative mind and the grind, but I’m gonna try my best to feed my fans without getting into too much trouble,” he continued.
So, his answer is Major Pain, now available at Chamillionaire.com.
In addition to the mixtape release, Chamillionaire is planning a reunion tour with Paul Wall, with whom he enjoyed early independent success. The tour kicks off with a SXSW headliner show in Austin on March 17th (Chamillionaire/Paul Wall, Trae Tha Truth, Dorrough, Chalie Boy and more) and includes stops in Flagstaff, Las Vegas, Tucson, Phoenix, Anaheim, Ventura, Los Angeles, Tulsa, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Denver, Albuquerque, Billings and Boise. More dates are to be announced.
“The lack of marketing and promo budgets in a weak economy isn’t gonna keep me from touring to different cities and releasing music to fans that still demand it,” Cham said. “That’s why I decided to start the Major Pain series and tour with Paul. It’s what the fans want.”
The final tracklist for Major Pain is as follows:
“Price of Failure”
“Ima Rep Texas”
“Pursuit of Cream”
“Houston up High”
“Sittin on Chrome”
“Everybody Hates Snitch”
“Koopa Don’t Care”
“Salute Your General”
“Story to Tell”
