Three months ago, Beastie Boys member MCA revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. Today, the 45-year-old rapper (real name: Adam Yauch) says he’s on the road to recovery and is feeling healthier every day.
In an email sent to the group’s mailing list, MCA revealed that he’s been receiving treatment from Tibetan specialists, and feeling like he’s “beaten this thing.”
“I’m feeling healthy, strong and hopeful that I’ve beaten this thing, but of course time will tell,” he wrote. “I’m taking Tibetan medicine and at the recommendation of the Tibetan doctors I’ve been eating a vegan/organic diet, which surprisingly enough was harder to do in India than it is now that I’m back home. Here I can just shop for the right food and cook … a lot easier than depending on restaurants.”
After being treated, he returned to the U.S. and is currently in Massachusetts, resting and spending time with family.
He says he’s “enjoying a little downtime in Massachusetts, taking walks in the woods and hanging out with the family…and just laying low.”
Before the diagnosis, the Beasties were preparing the release of a new album, titled Hot Sauce Committee, Part One, and a corresponding tour. But, those plans have been put on hold.
Yauch says he expects it to drop in the first half of 2010.
