Nearly two years after being arrested on drug charges, Lil Wayne is finally set to stand trial in Arizona … in 2010.
The rapper (real name: Dwayne Carter) was busted in January 2008, when drugs were found during a search of his tour bus as it past through Yuma, Arizona at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.
During their search, the DEA confiscated 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine and 41 grams of ecstasy pills. Weezy was charged with three felony charges — including possession of dangerous drugs, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A handgun was also found.
Since the arrest, the rapper has pleaded not guilty.
While he’s remained quiet about the arrest, he addressed the incident during a performance in Richmond, Virginia days after his arrest.
“A junkie can’t do what the f*** I do. I try to tell them,” he said. “I am the ultimate high, understand? I am my drug, you understand me?”
According to the Phoenix New Times, the case has been delayed because the prosecutor in the case “doesn’t offer misdemeanor charges for such offenses”, halting any plea deals as well as delaying the scheduling of a trial.
Lil Wayne’s trial is now set to begin March 30, 2010.
