Singer/songwriter Amerie has completed her fourth career album, and her premiere album under her new deal with Def jam Records. It’s entitled In Love & War, and is scheduled to arrive late this summer.
The album’s lead single, “Why R U”, debuted on the singer’s MySpace website last month. A video is currently ready for release, and is scheduled to premiere on BET on Monday (June 8).
In addition to the Buchanans, who worked with Amerie on two of her past releases, beatsmiths such as Teddy Riley, Sean Garrett, Eric Hudson, Jim Johnson, Rico Love and Bryan Michael Cox, all contributed to the singer’s upcoming release.
The new album follows a little bit of a hiatus from U.S. fans from Amerie. In 2007, she did drop her third album, Because I Love It, overseas, but it was only released with a very limited run within the U.S. at Wal-Mart stores. By the time it reached the U.S., she had left Columbia Records, so there was no single and/or promotion for the album.
So, with that said, the last major release fans in the States heard from Amerie was 2005’s Touch. That album was very successful and peaked on the Billboard 200 at no. 5, thanks to the smash single “1 Thing,” which went on to become one of the hottest songs of the year. It was so hot, it went on to become a platinum-selling digital single and mastertone, and was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Grammy, while the album was nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
Amerie hopes that with a promising new single, the forthcoming In Love & War will match the succes she achieved with Touch.
It is slated to hit stores this August.
