Eminem and Jay-Z gave Los Angeles hip-hop fans a moment to remember, when the rap superstars hit the stage together at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Monday (June 1) for the debut of Activision’s upcoming title “DJ Hero.”
The rare joint appearance drew a celebrity-studded audience including Leonardo DiCaprio, Pete Wentz, Tyrese, Kim Kardashian, Kelly Osbourne, and Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus. All of which were treated to an amazing set by Jay that included several of his greatest hits.
Jay’s set wrapped with a surprise appearance by Eminem, who hopped onstage to trade verses with Jay for “Renegade,” before breaking to his own mini-set.
Before that moment, those in attendance were treated to sets by TRVS/DJAM and Warren G. Travis Barker and DJ AM treated fans to their live mash-up set where Travis played the drums and AM cut up tracks on the turntables. They took it to Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle” to Bell Biv Devoe’s “Poison,” Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You,” and everything in between. If you haven’t experience a TRVS/DJAM, make it a point to catch one.
Warren G joined the duo later to perform his 90s smash, “Regulate”.
After the house band rocked to “Guitar Hero” for a short period, Jay-Z made his way on stage with a live band called the Roc Boys. He ran through his lengthy catalog, performing such hits as “99 Problems, “Jigga What,” and his verse from “Swagga Like Us,” before Em joined him for “Renegade.”
Then Em broke into a few songs to end the evening, belting out his latest single “3 A.M.,” and then “We Made You” and “Crack A Bottle” off Relapse. He ended his set with his classic “Lose Yourself” single from the “8 Mile” soundtrack.
