Laila Ali and husband Curtis Conway welcomed a baby boy last month (August 26), according to an announcement on her official website on Thursday (September 11).
Curtis Muhammad Conway is the couple’s first child, and he is named after his father and Ali’s (Muhammad Ali). At birth, he weight in at 6.8 lbs., and measured 19 inches in length.
“Although mom and baby are both healthy and happy, there were some surprises during labor that altered Laila’s birth plan,” the statement said.
In a blog on her official site, posted in mid-July, Laila stated that she planned to go through a natural home birth with no medications. However, it is not confirmed is she had gone through with it.
“I want to be in full control of my body and give birth to my son the same way women have been doing for thousands of years,” Laila explained of her decision to go with natural birth. Our bodies were made to birth and I trust the process. I encourage all women to educate themselves on all of the options available when it comes to having a child whether it is in a hospital or at home.”
CJ (Curtis Junior) is the couple’s first child, but the retired NFL star Curtis Conway has twin sons Kelton and Cameron, 13, and daughter Leilani, 9, from a previous relationship.
“Mama and baby are resting,” Ali wrote on her Web site, where she has blogged throughout her pregnancy.
