Andre Young Jr., the son of legendary hip-hop producer Dr. Dre, was found dead at his home in Woodland Hills, California on Saturday morning (August 23). He was just 20 years old.
According to LA Weekly, Young had returned home from a night out at around 5:30 a.m. When his mother went to check on him at about 10 a.m. the next morning, he was unresponsive.
She dialed 911, and when help arrived, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death is unknown, pending completion of a toxicology report. Police, however, do not suspect any foul play.
A spokesperson for Dr. Dre issued the following statement Tuesday (August 26) on the rapper’s behalf: “Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son Andre Young Jr. Please respect his family’s grief and privacy at this time.”
Following the news, fans have flocked to Dr. Dre’s MySpace page, offering their condolences and wishing the family strength.
“Our prayers are with you and your family,” wrote one fan.
