Bay Area rapper, Almighty Aziz, was shot dead by police when over the weekend after stabbing two people and a police dog.
According to The Mercury News, the 24-year-old rapper (real name: Aziz Howard Raqmond James) became violent during a party in Santa Clara, California, a city northwest of San Jose.
After an argument, he stabbed one of his friends, then jumped through a glass plate window, ran into a nearby house, jumped through another window and stabbed another friend who was reportedly trying to calm him down.
When police arrived on the scene, a police dog was sent in after him, which got stabbed multiple times as well.
Aziz would then emerge to confront the police, who then shot him.
One of the victims was stabbed in the torso, while the dog was stabbed in the torso, back and had its ear sliced. Both are currently recovering.
It is unclear as to what set the young man off, and friends and partygoers suspect he was under the influence of some sort of substance, although he’s not known for abusing drugs and/or has no history of mental illness.
“Aziz was trippin’,” longtime friend, Eric Munoz, told the paper. “I was like, ‘Dog, what’s happening bro? What’s wrong?’ And we tried to warn the cops: Don’t send in the dogs. But that’s what they did. It just got out of control.”
Santa Clara Police haven’t said much regarding the shooting, which was the first officer-involved fatal shooting in the city since 2005. The officers involved, however, were placed on administrative leave, while the County District Attorney’s Office investigates.
The rapper was scheduled to open for Devin The Dude on Friday in Santa Barbara, according to his MySpace page.
