Despite abruptly canceling his wedding to Tameka Foster last week, Usher took the plunge on Friday (August 3) and married Foster in a ceremony in Atlanta.
According to People magazine, the couple married during a simple ceremony held in the office of Usher’s lawyer — a drastic change from the lavish event that was originally planned at the home of Island Def Jam head, L.A. Reid.
Shortly after new broke of the wedding cancellation, rumors began to spread about the possible cause for the last minute stoppage. Some speculated that Usher’s mother (and former manager, Jonetta Patton, whom he fired in May) didn’t approve of the bride, while others said that the couple was having troubles agreeing on the prenuptial agreement.
Although sources close to the couple gave explanations, the couple said themselves that the rumors were false. “No one knows why we canceled the wedding, but I can tell you that all of the reasons that everyone is speculating and writing about are completely untrue,” Foster told People.
Usher backed her statements, stating that the wedding was not canceled, but postponed instead, but didn’t give a new date. It now looks like he just wanted to make it happen quietly.
In addition to the wedding, the couple is expecting their first child together. After announcing their engagement in March, they later announced the pregnancy.
