T-Pain: Epiphany
When "I'm Sprung," by T-Pain, first dropped, radio stations played it over and over across the country. However, a lot of people were hating on that song. Who would have known that a couple of years later, he would still have a career. What makes T-Pain special is the fact that he uses an infectious synthesized voice and crafts feel good, ghetto gospels that are hard not to hum along to. However, most people don't necessarily want to admit that they like his music. It's a guilty pleasure.

His newest release, Epiphany, is filled with plenty of guilty pleasures. The mood of the album is "party all the time." Tracks like "Bartender" and "Buy U A Drank" can get the most rythemless person on the dance floor. "Bartender" is T-Pain's ode to the bartender who is badder than all the other chicks in the club. He explains in this song how he just quit his chick, and now it's time to meet a new friend, while "Buy U A Drank" is T-Pain's description of a night at the club. I know, it sounds redundant, but that night must have been ladies free, because he didn't have to get with the bartender. Apparently, there is one chick there that is so bad that he wants to buy her a drink and then take her home with him (woo whoo, lucky chick). "Buy U A Drank" is like Crispy Crème donuts: no matter how many you eat, if you're offered another, you take it.

Another addictive song is "Backseat Action." This song covers T-Pain's deep discussion with his girl about having relations everywhere that she desires and, damnit, now it's time for him to get one of his fantasies fulfilled. The production is laced with heavy drums as well as Disturbing Tha Peace's Shawnna's "ewws" and "awws," along with fast paced lyrical skills. On the song "69," T-Pain, once more, requests to fulfill another fantasy with his girl. What makes this song so hot, is how honest it is. Lines like, "When I was kissing on her and she was sucking on me," gives anyone with an imagination a clear picture of the images T-Pain wanted to get across.

"Yo Stomach" is T-Pain's declaration to his favorite part of a woman's body. The idea sounds sweet until he states that he wants to relieve himself on his favorite part of her body. You can't even get mad at him after he mischievously claims he "has no where else to do it!" The production on the song even sounds soft and endearing with a piano gracing the background.

Although a lot of T-Pain's music has sexual overtones, he also makes some conscious efforts to promote safe sex. On the interlude, "I Got It," he is told by his girlfriend that she has HIV. The next song, "Suicide," details T-Pain's feelings about the news he just received. It is by far the most serious song on this sexually charged album; it's a refreshingly different side of T-Pain. Kudos to him, because fellow sexual-overtone-man, R. Kelly, has even hit that milestone, as of yet.

Overall, T-Pain's album has its place in music. Yes, we need those soft love songs, and we also need the songs where the man isn't in love and simply wants to make passionate love.
