On Waitin' To Inhale, Devin The Dude's fourth solo CD, he delivers his flows the way his fans love them -- laidback, humorous and with enough sexual innuendo to get some things jumped off. In giving his fans something to ride/smoke to, he has also just released the CD that should get the mainstream buzzing. Devin tames down some of his content to be less offensive, but has not softened his ability to have you exchanging f--- faces. Wasting no time setting the tone of the album, Devin, along with the Odd Squad, bring the funny and discourage the notion that chicks get top dollar for sexual favors on "She Wants That Money."
Despite all the trappings and perks of fame, "I Hope I Don't Get Sick Of This" finds Devin hoping his way with the ladies doesn't start to get mundane. Complete with clarity and emceeing at its best, "What A Job" calls for Snoop to leave crossover/pop flows on the backburner and return to his roots. The track also features Andre 3000, who is simply stellar. With the help of Snoop and Andre 3000, Devin the Dude informs the fans about the good and bad that comes with their career of choice. Chuck Heat, who produced "What A Job," definitely did what a producer is supposed to do -- create a track that is conducive to the variety of styles coming from each emcee.
Waitin' To Inhale has some of the South's most coveted heavy hitters, distracting listeners from the new sound of the South. Lil Wayne and Bun B show up on "Lil Girl Gone" and give you a clear vision of how some young girls become victims of street life. The ladies man Devin describes as "The Dude" in him, smoothes out the CD with "No Longer Needed Here" and bares his broken heart on "Just Because." Contrary to what may be implied on the controversial track "Cutcha Up," Devin The Dude is pouring out his heart to the original Young (HY) Dro, not some underage girl. It may take a few listens but you will eventually get the message.
Devin The Dude has put together a CD that is a must have and a great listen from beginning to end. Never once giving you reason to confuse his humor with a lack of talent. The Dude is a mature artist with a career that doesn't have an end in sight. Waitin' To Inhale was just what fans have been waiting on, or better yet, what they've been waiting to pop in the deck while they're smoking "Til It's All Gone."
