Justin Timberlake and Timbaland have proven that they make good music together on JT's first album, Justified. They've done it once again with his latest, FutureSex/LoveSounds. Timbaland and Justin Timberlake have created a new sound that ironically still manages to be reminiscent of Michael Jackson in the 80s, yet sound like Michael Jackson in about 1,000 years.
The album's title aptly describes what are 12-tracks of futuristic poppy, dance music, mixed with some traditional ballads. People are stuck on "bringing sexy back," but other songs to check for are "Chop Me Up," featuring Three 6 Mafia, "Until the End of Time," "Summer Love Set the Mood (Prelude)," and the Will.i.am-produced "Damn Girl."
"Chop Me Up," literally has a chopped and screwed sound as JT pleads with his love interest not to "chop him up," and break his heart. "Until the End of Time," is a sweet and slow ballad while "Summer Love Set the Mood (Prelude)" is a dance ballad, and "Damn Girl" deviates from the futuristic sound of most of the album. It's not out of place because it still has a dance-like, pop feel, but it's on the funky side thanks to Will.i.am. This is the one song where Timberlake is really getting his throwback-Michael-Jackson-on, from the chorus to the bridge.
FutureSex/LoveSounds is a really good album. What keeps it from becoming a classic are the one or two songs that sound almost the same and get a little monotonous with the robotic, Star Trek Voyager sounding music. Overall, this one will be a good stocking stuffer.
