Project Move: Love Gone Wrong/The Butterfly Theory
Words by Starrene Rhett Rating: 5.0 out of 5.0
You may have never heard of Project Move, but they are what hip-hop, the rap aspect of the culture, is all about -- tight lyrics over dope beats. Hailing from Boston, Project Move is Anonymous, Pruitt, Raheem Jamaal and Moe Pope. Their album, Love Gone Wrong/The Butterfly Theory, is a wonderful deviation from the monotony.
In edition to good lyricism, the production is excellent. With a jazz-meets-boom-bap-sound reminiscent of hip-hop in the early 90s, not only will you want to nod your head and tap your feet, you may even want to start breaking, whether you can or not. With production by Beyonder, Headnodic, Soul Supreme, etc, the members of Project Move have created a memorable, classic album that will probably remain unfortunately overlooked and underrated.
Every song on this album is a winner, as the members of Project Move candidly reflect on their lives, talking about everything from relatives who were raped at very young ages to having children at a young age to just wanting to have fun while listening to some dope hip-hop.
The best thing about this album is that, while it has a very throwback sound, it is still fresh, still new and still very original. If you are tired of tearing the club up and you just want to grab a drink and two-step with a fly guy/girl, then this is the album for you.
If you need to clean your house and you want some background music to move things along a little smoother, then this is the album for you. If you're going on a road trip and need some good music that may have to be repeated, then this is the album for you. hip-hop is not dead. You're just not paying attention to artists like Project Move who are keeping it alive and poppin'.
